“This is a chilling, true tale of a young girl kidnapped by two ruthless and violent murderers...a fascinating look at real-life events that are not for the faint of heart...The characters are well written....this is a compelling story...Fans of historical fiction and the crime/thriller genre will be fascinated by this story of the first serial killers in America.”

bonniereadsandwrites: “I loved the multiple illustrations and maps spilled out throughout the pages, the authors thoroughly brought out the detail of all the characters. I cannot believe that this brutal, horrifying book is based on true events. What happened to Betsy is absolutely awful. You really feel for her when she’s kidnapped....It sent shivers all over my BODY...What a woman...I absolutely adored the style of writing. For the time frame the writing flowed....Although a difficult read at times, one that’s completely worth it....If you love historical events this is definitely one for you. The cover is so beautiful. I was shocked at how much I enjoyed this book.”

“...I was drawn into this story from the very first word on the very first page. It didn’t take me long to realise that I would have great difficulty putting the book to one side for any length of time. I was spot on too. My Kindle wasn’t exactly glued to my hand, but it might as well have been because it travelled everywhere with me as I couldn’t bear to miss a single second of the story. I became so engrossed in the story that I lost all track of time and just how quickly I was getting through the story and how quickly the time was passing.....I found ‘Betsy Roberts’ to be a gripping, page turner of a read, which kept me guessing and which kept me on the edge of my seat throughout. ‘Betsy Roberts’ is well written....the authors certainly knows how to grab the reader’s attention and draw them into the story from the very start. For me, the story hit the ground running and maintained a fast and scary pace throughout. Reading ‘Betsy Roberts’ was a bit like being on a scary and unpredictable roller coaster ride with several twists and turns along the way. Just when you thought that you could take a moment to gather your thoughts, reclaim your stomach and catch a breath then off the action would go again. Through the author’s very vivid and realistic storytelling, I got a real sense of what life must have been like for Betsy Roberts...In short, I really enjoyed reading ‘Betsy Roberts’ and I would recommend this book to other readers.  I will certainly be reading more from this author in the future.  The score on the Ginger Book Geek board is a very well deserved 5* out of 5*.”

“This is one of my favourite books this year! This book is an incredible true story about Betsy Roberts....You can tell how much time and research was put into the book and how the authors wanted to portray her, to teach people about such an important woman in history....The story is fast paced throughout, you go on a complete rollercoaster of emotions with the characters and it keeps you absolutely hooked on to it. If you are a fan of historical books then I’d say give this one a go!”

“This book stays with you. Betsy was kidnapped by two ruthless killers, abused and shared. Very graphic...we also get to learn about Betsy's life after she escapes. Using the tools the brothers taught her, Betsy does not lead a quiet life. She sets up her own life - fascinating, well researched....You can't help but be obsessed.”

“....inspired by the real life Betsy Roberts, this novelised biography is packed full of details of her nefarious dealings and the trail of corpses left in her wake. From rural Kentucky to the high society of New York City, Betsy proves to be a ruthless and determined woman, whether surviving being kidnapped by two outlaws, to escaping justice, travelling cross country with her young son, and engineering her way to wealth and success, she doesn’t let anyone or anything get in her way. Including husbands....I felt sorry for Betsy at first, with her murdered parents and having been kidnapped and treated brutally by the Harpe brothers. But instead of escaping them, she breaks them out of jail and goes on the run with them again. She’s so cold hearted and utterly without remorse, even murdering her own husbands to get her own way. While I can’t quite say I admire her, she is after all a murderer and criminal, she sounds like a force to be reckoned with, and her rags to riches tale should be encouraging – as long as you don’t go with the body count too.”

“....Right from the brutal beginning of this novel, the story had me in its relentless grip....Immediately I could see just how much research had been put into this novel as the language, the descriptions and the people instantly transported me to the Old West. The story completely captivated me and I struggled at times to put it down. It was only the need to sleep and work which stopped me from reading it in one sitting, even though it’s over 400 pages. This certainly doesn’t read like a debut novel and I’ll definitely be looking forward to reading more by these brilliant authors.”

“The story, written by N.G. Neville, does really well to set out a clear structure when exploring Betsy’s life and this makes it a really engaging book for readers and allows it to be really accessible and easy to follow…the building of the story as the second part is phenomenal…the story is really engaging and perfect for those who want to sink their teeth into a lengthy and gripping story about an ambitious and clever woman.”

“Just by reading this excellent first novel by N.G Neville, makes you appreciate the sheer effort gone into the research of the characters, dates, and the geography of the then embittered and barren landscapes. All brilliantly described, as the stories that unfold take you along with menace, page by page. Well done. Really enjoyed your book.”

“Just bought “Betsy Roberts” by N.G. Neville. I don’t usually read historical novels but it was recommended by a friend. Plus there was mention of serial killers. I could NOT put it down!!
The characters & historical detail are superb. You know you’ve had a good read when after closing the book you are still thinking of it days later.
I would highly recommend this to everyone.”

“You can’t help but wonder what you might have done in Betsy Robert’s position. Would you have been a ‘Betsy’ or a ‘Susan’? This story would make a fantastic film, I look forward to what comes next from NG Neville.”
